It’s really easy bein’ green

So I finally picked up the new Codex: Orks book. It’s really nice, full of gorgeous artwork and the nice evocative writing you would expect from a GW product. I’m revisiting my army lists again and prepping a fun 1000-point patrol in anticipation of some friendly games in the near future. There’s some big differences from 8th Edition, and the last time I played 40K was 4th Edition so it’s really a lot different!

I checked what sort of 40K events they regularly held at the local GW store and on their Facebook and it seems that they have 1000-point matches so that’s what I’m starting with. I figure I should make a friendly list that’s fun to play against since my goal will be to make friends. I still want to win of course but for these events I want to be sportsmanlike and not go too heavy on the cheese.

As you can see the TROOPS selections have the highest amount of points, which is as it should be in a friendly game. 402 points for Boyz and Grotz and with the 75 points added in for the Trukk that’s 477 out of 999 which are straight-up line infantry troops. Then I have just one each of Elites, Fast Attack and Heavy Support, and these are all more infantry, giving my potential opponent lots of orks to shoot at. A good time to be had, for sure.

For my Warlord I am going with ‘Doktor Orkenheimer’ a Big Mek w/ Shokk Attack Gun. It’s a very orky model with a lot of great character. It’s also a pretty straightforward unit in terms of gameplay. It’s a big gun and it blows stuff up real good. I like it when things look like what they do.

So now that I have them selected I will do the final touch-ups then need to get them tabletop-ready. Some detail painting and then basing with some nice sand texture and grass. I also got these great size-adapters from WARGAMES3D. Ork models are all supposed to be on 32mm bases now instead of the 25mm that used to be standard back in the day. So instead of ripping them all off their old bases I got these size converter thingies that just snap onto the old bases and make them 32mm. This isn’t a paid ad, I really did just order these things and they work great.

I’ll post some new pix once I get these properly based and painted up. Hopefully I’ll be ready for a match in a couple of weeks and I can get a game in before the year ends!
